Tips for Creating Your Perfect Home Gym- Part II: the Weights

In Part I, we discussed what makes a room a good choice for creating your perfect home gym. Now it’s time to fill it with the right stuff so you can continue your fat burning, muscle building lifestyle for the rest of your life.

Dumbbells + Dumbbell Rack


No home gym is complete without a good set of dumbbells. The weights that you choose to have in your home gym will depend on your current fitness level and goals. For someone who has been   weight training regularly for a few months and wants muscle growth, there’s no need to have any weights that are less than 20lbs. A good set of adjustable dumbbells might be worth the investment.

Barbell + Barbell Rack

The other weight room staple, the barbell, also has its place in your home gym. How else are you going to get big muscle gains with your squats? Barbell plates are actually very versatile, too, since they can be removed and used as a heavy, flat weight for pushups or weighted hip bridges. Depending on your ability, a set of 5, 10, 25, 35, 45, and 100lbs might be a could starting point.

Other Weights


Other weights that you might want to have on hand include kettlebells in a few different weights (perhaps 10, 20 and 40kg) and a couple medicine balls (perhaps 10, 20 and 30lbs).
