Best Cardio Exercises for Muscle Building
There is a delicate balance that you need to strike between your cardio exercise and your resistance training with weights if you want to burn the most fat while still gaining as much muscle as possible. Doing too much cardio, or the wrong kinds of cardio, can eat away at the muscles that you’ve worked so hard to grow. For people who don’t want huge muscles, that’s fine; but if you want big muscle gains, you need to choose your cardio carefully. Here are some of the best cardio exercises that make your body build muscle instead of lose it.
Stair climbing is a great way to build your lower body muscles while getting an awesome cardiovascular workout. You can use the stairmill at the gym (the stairmaster isn’t as good) or use real stairs; even better, this exercise can give you even more muscle building benefits by adding weight to your body (I’ve seen a woman doing the stairmill with a barbell weight across her shoulders… beast!).
Rowing is one of the best ways to work your upper body during your cardio workouts. In my opinion, the rowing machine is woefully underused at the gym; it’s a great workout for your back muscles and triceps. Or take it outside and get a similar effect rowing a boat.
